6 May 1927, the day the first radio announcement was made also marks the date Turkey’s audio  memory was started to be recorded with the radio broadcasts, followed by its visual memory with the introduction of TV broadcasts. Based on the principle of reflecting every social, politic, cultural or economic process the country may be in, the broadcasting mission of the Turkish Radio and Tv Corporation which started with “sounds and voices” and went on to include “vision”, has always brought the voice of Turkey to the screens and articulated it. Blending all broadcasting attempts before it in its spectrum which enlightens every colour in Turkey, TRT became, and still is the foundation stone of broadcasting.

The Museum which was established  to carry the past to present and bring it back to life, is the reflection of the TRT’s public responsibility for the past, present and future as the only public broadcaster in Turkey.

TRT Museum is a memory of Turkey where you read the mind of the previous generation as you walk along its halls accompanied by voices and visions. It is an important archival work where what you see brings back the days of your childhood, youth and adulthood  as it takes you from B&W screens and transistor radio to 3D broadcasts and depicts the cutting edge of the broadcasting technology .  It is a privileged exhibition visit we booked years ago exclusively for you where a choice of many outstanding works in the TRT radio and TV archives along with the time and setting of their broadcasts are on display, that puts Turkey’s history under magnifying glass and lets you touch your memories and have a look at them from the present.

The Museum is a school of broadcasting where a broadcast is not only watched or listened, but also performed. Various in house studios let you  have direct applied experience of the stages of the audio and visual broadcasting. Various learning films on the cornerstones of the broadcasting history and the research library in the museum show that the museum has many alternatives, not only to see, but also to learn.

From technical implementations to settings, from graphics to holograms, from films to data processing infrastructure, designed, developed and implemented by TRT personnel, the Museum is the result of 4 years of efforts by over 200 TRT staff members.  I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you, our dear visitors, and to the members of the TRT family without whose knowledge, experience and commitment this museum wouldn’t have been possible.
